Application

Page history last edited by Sapphirebreeze 12 years, 8 months ago

There is a text version of the app available here.

Answers on the app should be long enough to cover the subject but short enough to be interesting. Writing excessively long applications will not help you, as the more the admin feel the need to skim what you've written, the less likely we are to approve it.

If the character doesn't have a tech spec already in existence, please fill out the relevant portions of the 'Original Characters' portion of the app. If this is the first incarnation of the character in the game, please fill out the Weapons, Armor, Special Abilities, Weaknesses, Skills and Stats section of the 'Original Characters' portion of the app.

Note that the admin reserve the right to refuse any character application. We will always tell you why and try to work with you to make the application acceptable, but ultimately, no means no.

This is a text-based game, so writing capability is something we look at. Applications riddled with typos and grammar errors will not be accepted.

Original Character applications are, in a way, more difficult to get approved than canon applications, as their power levels and unity of character concept tend to get watched more carefully (canon characters come with concept and power levels built in). We have an example OC application that may be useful to reference.

Applications usually have a 2-5 day turn-around time, because they are discussed in a committee.

As a reminder, please be familiar with our FAQ before submitting an application.

Do not rewrite or rephrase the application, and answer all questions, even if the answer is N/A. It is recommended that applicants cut and paste the application into the program that they are using to write the application, and then fill in their answers in that program without deleting, editing, or changing the wording of the original questions.

Player Information

Name:

E-mail:

Explain your understanding of the concepts of consensual roleplay and in-character actions = in-character consequences. Players with currently active characters do not need to answer this question.

How did you hear about the Deadzone RPG? Players with currently active characters don't need to answer this one either.

Character Information (All)

Character Name:

Character Faction:

Which show/comic is this character from? (If your character is from a canon, such as G1, that has multiple versions of the canon, such as the cartoon and comics, please specify which particular version of that canon you're from.)

Where was he pulled from in the timeline? What canon events have already happened? What canon events have yet to happen? (Players who are applying for characters already in the game do not have to answer this question.)

How do you see this character's personality? His ethics and morals? (Canon cites are not required, but they are helpful.)

What scares your character? How does your character react to fear? (Do not list 'failure' as your character's only primary fear.)

Does your character have any 'attached' characters, such as cassettes, *Master partners, mini-cons, etc.? If so, how do you intend to handle them?

What does your character look like in each of his modes? Please include the location of any faction sigils, or specify if your character lacks them.

Why is your character a member of his particular faction? (It does not have to be his usual canonical faction, but if it is different, a better than usual justification will be needed.)

What do you see as the character's role in the game? (This doesn't have to be your function, though they're usually related somehow.) For current players applying for a new character, what does this new character bring to the game that we don't already have? What sort of plots are you hoping to participate in? Why do /you/ want to play /this/ particular character among all the different characters available? What are YOUR goals for your character? And how flexible are you on those goals? (Please do not answer 'to have fun' as a goal. That's a given; it's why we're here.)

There doesn't seem to be any sort of RP happening on the boards! Write a post that shows how you would start up a scene. Be creative with the environment and specific characters present, but do not pose for anyone else. This is about how YOU and YOUR CHARACTER would initiate roleplay. We are specifically looking for a sample here that could be used as a thread-starter, rather than something in the middle of another thread. Write this sample post as though your character has been in the game for some time. It should NOT be what you expect to be their first post in game. (Please see Examples for more information.)

Players who are applying for characters already in the game do not have to answer the rest of the application.

Alt-Mode:

Tech Spec Text:

(Yes, you get to make up the data that goes on your toy's box. Please see the Tech Spec page more information.) (Note: Only original characters need to answer this question set, but it helps the Wiki admin if you do it anyway. Also, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and other characters who do not have a canon toy bio-type quote characters must provide one.)

What is your character's origin and history? (Note: The more complicated the answer to this question is, the higher-quality the overall application should be.) (Note: Only original characters need to answer this question.)

How is your character armed? Armored? Does he have any special abilities? (Note: Any special abilities, weapons, and armor not mentioned here will not exist in-game. We may make exceptions for generic laser pistols and rifles, but not for anything else. Please list any modes that can fly which would not be able to fly normally. Yes, this includes robot mode, as the admin have gotten tired of keeping track of which series the Decepticons fly in, and which they do not.)

What are your character's physical weaknesses? (Note: Interesting and creative weaknesses are encouraged, and, so long as they do not contradict established canon, new ones may be created even for a canon character. However, filling the response to this question with weaknesses that are not weaknesses [ex. citing a character as being physically weak, when their Strength is 'average'] will result in a harsher judgement than including no weaknesses at all. If it fits the character, then saying that they have no physical weaknesses is acceptable. Mental weaknesses belong in the personality section of the application.)

List their skills and rank them from Pinnacle, Excellent, Good, Average, Amateur. (Please see Skills for more information first.)

Height in robot-mode? (Please review the Height page for the size categories used in this game.) Also note here if your alternate-mode is not life-size.

Stats

First of all, please read the Stats page for information on what each stat means.

Since we aren't hard-coding combat, but we do want to have an idea of how your character compares to another character in combat-terms, we're using a five-tier quantitative system. Pick one of the selected options for each stat.

Strength: Weak, Average, Strong, Leader/Dinobot, Gestalt

Endurance: Easily Winded, Average, Fuel Efficient, Extended Distances Without Refueling, Self-Contained Reactor

Toughness: Glass Jaw, Average, Tough Guy, Stalwart, Unbreakable

Agility: Fumble-fingered, Average, Nimble, Acrobatic, Contortionist

Intelligence: Dumb, Average, Above Average, Exceptionally Bright, Genius

Firepower: Low, Average, Well-Armed, High, City-Buster

Ranged: Aimless, Average, Steady Hands, Sharpshooter, Advanced Sniper

Melee: Inexperienced, Average, Seasoned, Veteran, Death on Two Legs

Armor: Fragile, Average, Durable, Tanklike, Unbreakable

Please read the Speed page for more information on the hard scale we use for speed in this game.

Speed in Robot-Mode: Slow, Average, Fast, Zoom!, Poof! You're There

Speed in Alternate-Mode: Slow, Average, Fast, Zoom!, Poof! You're There

If there are both comic and cartoon versions of a given series, specify whether your character is from the comic or cartoon.

Send your applications in plain text only in the body of the e-mail to deadzoneapp@gmail.com with the subject "OC/FC - Character Name - Character Faction - Series". (Use 'OC' if you're submitting an original character, and 'FC' if you're submitting a canon character.) Plain text means no bolding, no italics, no HTML, no coding of any kind in the body of the email. All email clients provide the option to send emails in the plain text format. Do not submit the application as an attachment.
